First Born Friends

I have just finished The Soloist by Steve Lopez. It was good. I really enjoyed it, and yet was totally freaked out that one of my children could inexplicably come down with Schizophrenia. Anyways, really, that is a post for another day.

Typically, I go from one book to the next. (I'm a read-a-holic. Forget Schizophrenia, I'm an Addict.) Well, I ordered The Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman from Paperback Swap and I have not been able to put it down. It's so interesting!

But it started me thinking. I think the majority of my friends are first-borns or only-borns. I guess it makes sense. I value characteristics like consideration, values, organization, etc. And if my friends have those things in common, then it's a match! :)

Anyways, interesting right? Do you notice a similar pattern in your friends?

now that you mention it, 'most' of my friends are 1st borns. How strange...

I'd think it would be the opposite. I mean, there can only be a certain # of type A's getting along, right?!?!?

Good point. Lehman makes the point that there are aggressive first-borns and compliant first-borns. I think if you have too many of the former types you're in for trouble. I tend to be more compliant which is perfect for some of my more aggressive first born friends!

Is Erik a first-born too? Joel is actually a third-born, but he was so many years after the first two, that I think he has more first-born qualities than third. In some ways, he was similar to an only child when he was growing up. Good thing too, since I'd probably go crazy being married to someone like my brother, who has most every characteristic trait of a second-born child.

Don't you just love Leman?

Yes, I have enjoyed reading him. I'm embarrassed, though, at misspelling his name twice. Oh well.

Yes, Erik is a first born, which is very funny to me. And Leman writes that if there are more than 5 years between siblings then there are actually two families. So, that would explain Joel's first-born tendencies.

Erik as a first-born has been a God-send. I love it. We both are goal-oriented, considerate of others, and into family. I am so blessed to have my match!

Most of my friends have always been first borns, too. The aggressive ones more than the compliant ones, actually. Now that I'm more mature and can see that, I wonder why I was drawn to them in school? Strange.

These days I don't bother with the aggressive first borns...they bug me too much and pick weird hills to die on. I prefer my fellow compliant first born friends...
